AERIAL VIEW photo of a paraglider above Ölüdeniz, Turkey.

Paraglider soaring above the Blue Lagoon of Ölüdeniz. Ölüdeniz is one of the most famous paragliding site in the world (if not the most) as it offers an incredibly spectacular landscape, with a launch site at a dizzying elevation of 1700 meters above sea level with a beach landing at only 3.9 kilometers. Paraglider pilots and tourists can easily reach the Station 1700 by taking the cable-car from Ölüdeniz’s main station (elevation: 226 meters). In Turkish, Ölüdeniz means “Dead Sea” due to its calm waters. Ölüdeniz, Muğla Province, Turkey.

AERIAL VIEW photo of Dalyan Lagoon, Turkey.

Iztuzu Beach is one of the most scenic beach on the Mediterranean coast of Turkey. This sand bar forms a natural barrier between the Mediterranean Sea and the Dalyan Delta. Iztuzu Beach is also known as Turtle Beach as it is the main breeding grounds for loggerhead sea turtles. When, in 1987, developpers wanted to build a luxury resort on this pristine beach, it triggered an international protest from major environmental groups which effectively stopped the project. Muğla Province, Turkey.

The fresh water delta of the Dalyan river, viewed from above, offers a succession of beautiful abstract sceneries. The Dalyan Delta and Iztuzu Beach are both protected since 1988 under the Köyceğiz-Dalyan Special Environmental Protection Area. This is a welcome status for this fragile environment as the Dalyan area is a major destination for tourists as the famous Lycian tombs carved out of the cliff are on the right bank of the Dalyan River.
