Strada Statale 1 Via Aurelia is a state road following the Mediterranean coast from Rome to Ventimiglia at the Italian / French border. Some stretches of this road are very scenic, like here at Capo Noli, west of the medieval town of Noli (in the distance). Province of Savona, Liguria, Italy.
Capo Noli is a great destination for outdoors activities such as mountain biking, hiking, underwater diving in a nice setting. The Capo Noli limestone cliffs are recognized by rock climbers, and the site is also great for deep water soloing. Capo Noli. Province of Savona, Liguria, Italy.
With the Alps ending abruptly into the Mediterranean Sea between Genoa and Nice (France), building a coastal expressway was a Herculean task (reflected in the toll). The A10 expressway between Genoa and the French border, is nothing but tunnels (112 of various length) and viaducts due to the escarpment. The A10 expressway is called the “Fiori Autostrada” (flower expressway) and follows the temperate Mediterranean coast. This nickname will be relevant, even in the winter (photo) as the mimosa’s yellow flowers stand out among the evergreen vegetation. Borghetto San Nicolo. Province of Imperia, Liguria, Italy.
The Mediterranean Alps are the most impressive at the international border between Ventimiglia (Italy) and Menton (France). A short 38-kilometer-beeline from the customs are summits over 3000-meter-high and the Alps’ most southerly glacier: Glacier du Clapet (in Italy). Italy / France.
Cruise Ships: Costa Deliziosa (length: 292 m) and Costa neoRiviera (length: 216 m). Marina of Savona, Liguria, Italy.
